About Rs 2.25 Lakh Crore Allotted For Andhra Pradesh: Venkaiah Naidu

Venkaiah Naidu said centre had already sanctioned Rs 1.65 lakh crore for Andhra Pradesh.

New Delhi: A day after government announced financial package for Andhra Pradesh, Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said the total assistance for projects already sanctioned and those proposed or are in the pipeline is about Rs 2.25 lakh crore.

He said the Centre had already sanctioned Rs 1.65 lakh crore for implementing various schemes and projects in the state and another Rs 60 lakh crore would be provided for the projects which are proposed or in the pipeline.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister also explained how and when the central assistance were provided to the state.

Claiming that everything is "special" for Andhra Pradesh like special focus, special treatment and special assistance, he said a large number of industries would come up in the state due to the measures being taken by the Centre and it would lead to huge employment generation.

The centre had on Wednesday night announced a financial package for Andhra Pradesh that includes full funding of Pollavaram irrigation project, tax concessions and a special assistance, but stopped short of giving the state a special category status.

It has argued that the terms of the 14th Finance Commission mean that the special category status can no longer be accorded to states.
