Rome:  A 31-year-old woman committed suicide today by jumping off the Leaning Tower of Pisa, police in the Tuscan city said.

"It was a suicide," a police spokeswoman said, adding that the woman suffered from depression. "She managed to climb over the balustrade and jump."

The last reported suicide from the landmark freestanding bell tower of Pisa's 12th-century cathedral was in 2002.
