Paris:
A Libyan official says Libya's ambassadors to France and to the U.N. cultural and education organization have resigned.
The Paris-based official says the ambassador to France, Mohamed Salaheddine Zarem, and the ambassador to UNESCO, Abdoulsalam El Qallali, quit Friday. The official, who worked with both men, spoke on condition of anonymity because of the diplomatic sensitivity of the decision.
The announcement came after anti-government protesters camped out in the Libyan Embassy in Paris overnight and replaced the flag with that of the old monarchy Friday.
French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said police are taking "appropriate measures" to protect the embassy.
Libya's opposition movement is seeking to solidify its gains and loosen longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi's grip on the capital.
