Kuwait is home to large numbers of guest workers who outnumber the local population.
KUWAIT CITY:
A Kuwaiti fire official says nine Asian residents have been killed in a house fire in the oil-rich Gulf country.
Fire Service Directorate spokesman Khalil al-Ameer told The Associated Press that six of those killed in today's blaze were from a single family. He says more than 25 people were injured, including four firefighters.
The fire happened in a house that had been subdivided into multiple residences in Farwaniya, a suburb 15 kilometers south of the capital, Kuwait City.
Al-Ameer did not have further details on the victims' nationalities or identities.
Like other wealthy Gulf Arab countries, Kuwait is home to large numbers of guest workers who outnumber the local population.
