Expat Pakistanis protest Taliban insurgency
Washington:

President Zardari's schedule in Washington was packed with meetings with senators, Congressmen, the secretary of state and President Obama - but there was another group of people who wanted to give a message to the Pakistan president.

They gathered outside President Zardari's hotel to get their message across - that they are worried about the security of their homeland because of the Taliban insurgency.

"The main goal is to give the message that none of us will tolerate the kind of activities going on in Pakistan. We are very disturbed and concerned. We are sick and tired of the ambivalence of the government," said Najma Siddiqui, from People for Pakistan.

Eventually, members of the Pakistani delegation came out to try and reassure the protesters that the military was conducting a major offensive in the Swat Valley.

"The government is fighting with this menace. 1700 soldiers have been killed, more than 800 people have died," said Qamar Zaman Kaira, Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

"My question is prime minister Gilani said today that we have started tackling them, but are we going to go all the way out or again are we going to leave it in between?" asked one of the concerned protestors.

"Madam, this is not a question of leaving it in between," the Minister replied.

It is not just members of the Obama administration who are demanding that Pakistan get tougher with Pakistan. Pakistani Americans too are using the opportunity to make their voices heard to President Zardari as he visits their country.
