London: Britain's future king, Prince George has taken his first princely steps in public as he was seen taking baby strides clutching on to his mother Kate Middleton's hand at an event.

Prince George, who will be one-year-old in July, was seen shuffling along with the support of the Duchess of Cambridge at the Jerudong Trophy at Cirencester Park Polo Club.

Kate beamed with pride at her son's efforts as Princes William and Harry lined up on opposing sides for the polo event yesterday.

The world has followed his every move and now his first steps are grabbing all the attention.

Two months shy of his first birthday, Prince George showed the public how he has mastered the skill of standing on his own two feet and walking.

Last week the Duchess strongly hinted at an event to mark Sir Ben Ainslie's America's Cup team that her son had been taking his first steps, but this was the first time he has been pictured walking. The Prince will now keep the royal couple on their toes with his added - and purposeful - mobility, The Telegraph reported.

The 10-month-old looked an aspiring sportsman in the making as he keenly grabbed at polo mallets lying on the ground while Princes William and Prince Harry competed, the daily said.

The young Prince even seemed gripped by World Cup fever as he played with a soft football on the grass. Suitably dressed in a white polo T-shirt under red and white candy striped dungarees, the toddler was the centre of attention at the annual polo event.

Crawling around, grabbing at his 32-year-old mother's ankles, and clearly intrigued by the horses, the future king looked like he was having fun on the family day out. At one point he did temporarily lose his cool, but a reassuring cuddle from the Duchess soon calmed him down.
