'When Cricket Team Wins, PM is Quick to Respond': Top Reactions to Dadri Remark

"Incidents like Dadri and Ghulam Ali are really sad but what is the role of the Centre in them?" PM Modi has told the newspaper Anandabazar Patrika.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has for the first time spoken on the mob lynching of a 52-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri, calling the incident 'really sad'. However, the Opposition was quick to denounce the PM's remarks, criticising him for his 'delayed' reaction.
  • Narendra Modi is suffering from selective amnesia. He has forgotten that he is the Prime Minister. Protecting the lives of citizens is his responsibility. Will PM tell the nation what action did he take against Mahesh Sharma? What action did he take against Sanjiv Baliyan? Will PM tell the nation if he spoke to UP Chief Minister?

    Randeep Surjewala, Spokesperson, Congress

  • What sort of silence has PM Modi broken? Suppose, I kill a man today and apologise later, would that mean anything?

Lalu Prasad, President, Rashtriya Janata Dal

  • How can the PM speak so late on this issue? When the cricket team wins, he is quick to respond to it. He finally broke his silence after a lot of pressure. This is condemnable. To kill a man by a mob is not small issue. This is a Taliban-like behaviour and they call it a small incident.

Sharad Yadav, President, Janata Dal (United)

  • The word unfortunate is far too weak. Saying something won't change things. People have elected you. You have responsibility towards them.

    Shashi Deshpande, Author

  • In democracy, the governments and policies keep on changing. But the core values of India must not change.... The government must recoginse its responsibility and respect all religions and pluralism. But it's not happening, people are afraid of future.
