Madhya Pradesh temple stampede: Guilty will be punished, says Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan
New Delhi: Tragedy struck Dussehra festivities in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district, nearly 400 km from Bhopal, with at least 115 people killed and over 80 injured in a stampede near a temple yesterday morning.
  • Guilty would be punished at the earliest.Politics on any tragedy is unwanted. The focus should be on attending to the injured & take steps to avoid any such incidents in the future.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister
  • Reason for Ratangarh Mata disaster ? Police was charging Rs 200 from each tractor and allowing in no traffic zone. Good Governance in MP ?
    Digvijaya Singh, Congress leader
  • The issues should be dealt with carefully. Lot of things have been exposed. Suspending people will not help. The real issue cannot be hidden from the people. If a government is working against the people, we will also go against that government. The Congress is trying to politicise the issue.
    Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, BJP leader
  • Madhya Pradesh government has not learnt enough lessons from past experiences. If only it had learnt, such incident wouldn't have happened. Madhya Pradesh government has failed.
    D Raja, Left leader
  • There is no politics in this. It is not a natural calamity; melas happen every year. The question is we need to get an answer from someone. Chief Minister must stand by himself and resign.
    Kamal Nath, Congress leader
  • It is a completely unfortunate incident. Madhya Pradesh government has ordered a magisterial enquiry. Chief Minister is visiting the location. Compensation has been announced. Action will be taken based on the investigation. Congress is an expert in politicising such incidents.
    Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP leader
  • It is police carelessness, it is completely their failure. They should have been more alert. Shivraj Singh does not have the right to remain Chief Minister. The BJP is busy doing politics and preparing for elections. Whoever is responsible should be arrested.
    KC Tyagi, JDU
  • Sad incidents like this should not be politized, but, Congress has made a habit of doing so. I admit, there have been lapses by police, and I have asked the Chief Minister
    Dr. Narottam Mishra, BJP leader
  • More than 100 lives have been lost. It is a national tragedy. Centre must survey important places of pilgrimage and prepare a national disaster plan and help states. Instead of doing this, every Congress leader from Kamal Nath, Scindia, and Maken are playing politics because of elections.
    Prakash Javadekar, BJP leader
