In an exclusive interview to NDTV, US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter has indicated that India and the US are on the verge of a breakthrough in a major logistics agreement which could see the deployment of US forces on Indian bases under certain circumstances. However, this is a non-binding agreement and would only be done on the invitation of the government of India. Mr Carter has condemned terrorism from Pakistani soil and has said the sale of US weapons to Islamabad was conditional on their use in counter terror operations.
