Hundreds of depositors protested in Chennai, demanding action and recovery of their money in the Mylapore Hindu Permanent Fund Nidhi case. More than 6,000 depositors are reported to have been affected, with many senior citizens saying their lifetime savings and retirement funds remain stuck. Depositors are demanding a fast-track court, a forensic audit, property attachment and speedy recovery of their money. The Mylapore Hindu Permanent Fund Nidhi, a more than 150-year-old institution, has been at the centre of the case. Its Managing Director T. Devanathan Yadav was arrested in 2024. NDTV's Sam Daniel spoke to distressed depositors who say they have lost lakhs of rupees and are struggling without access to their savings.
