Punjab Anti-Drugs Activist Parvinder Singh Jhota Cremated Weeks After Murder In Mansa

Anti-drugs activist Parvinder Singh Jhota was cremated in Mansa, Punjab, on November 8, nearly a month after he was shot dead during a confrontation at a chemist’s shop on October 13. Hundreds gathered to pay their respects, with supporters raising slogans against the Punjab government and the Mansa administration. A CBI probe into his killing is underway. Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, accused the government and police of colluding with drug smugglers and demanded the transfer of Mansa SSP Vaibhav Chaudhary. The family said its main demand was an end to Punjab’s drug menace, while Jhota’s mother maintained that they had never sought compensation or a government job. The Punjab government has offered ₹2 crore and a government job to Jhota’s wife.
