NDTV is on the ground in Chitwan, Nepal, where the scale of the flood tragedy is becoming increasingly grim. The district administration has received 64 dead bodies, all currently kept at the Bharatpur Hospital mortuary.
NDTV visited the mortuary and witnessed the devastating condition of the recovered bodies. Hospital authorities say the facility has a capacity of around 50 bodies, but 64 have already arrived, with more feared to be recovered.
The Chitwan administration is preparing alternative arrangements as search operations continue in the Narayani River. Officials fear that 300–400 bodies could eventually reach the area, while identification remains extremely difficult due to the condition of the victims.
