"India's Democracy Still Has Flexibility": Shashi Tharoor On Gen Z Protests

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor discusses the rise of Gen Z-led protests and youth movements across South Asia, from Myanmar and Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and India. He says growing frustration, aspirations and demands for greater political expression have driven different forms of youth-led uprisings across the region. Tharoor contrasts how governments responded in different countries, noting that political systems reacted differently to the youth movements. On India, he says the democratic system adapted to a new public reality, arguing that "our system bent but it did not break" and that Indian democracy still has flexibility and openness to popular currents.
