Karnataka Power Tussle Deepens As Congress Reviews Government Performance

Ahead of a crucial leadership meeting on Karnataka, senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, K. C. Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala reportedly held detailed discussions on the functioning of the Siddaramaiah government and the organisational health of the party in Karnataka. Sources say Surjewala submitted a report reviewing governance performance, anti-incumbency concerns and feedback from MLAs amid the ongoing tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar. According to party insiders, the Congress leadership has received feedback suggesting growing anti-incumbency and concerns that governance and development may have suffered because of prolonged uncertainty over leadership in the state. The high command is now expected to hold separate discussions with Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar as it weighs options to stabilise the government and prepare the party for the 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections.
