Akali sources say a renewed BJP-Akali Dal alliance is now "inevitable", with national security emerging as a key factor. Sources point to Punjab's gang culture, the drug problem and concerns over complainants being allegedly hounded instead of accused. The alliance could reportedly be revived on the lines of the earlier Parkash Singh Badal-Atal Bihari Vajpayee partnership.
