Meghalaya is all set to become a global tourist attraction with the opening of the world's first Rain Museum in Mawsynram. Known as the Earth's wettest place, the village receives an average of 12,000 mm of rainfall annually. The museum will showcase engaging exhibits and realistic rain simulations with the aim of celebrating the wet and drizzly nature of the state.

Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has confirmed that tenders for the project are now open. The construction will begin when the current monsoon subsides. The objective of the project is to establish Mawsynram as a niche global destination that combines scientific and sensory experiences in equal measure.

The rain museum at Mawsynram, according to Lyngdoh, is an attempt by the government to transform Meghalaya's natural beauty into concrete experiences, The Meghalayan Times reported. Mawsynram hopes that visitors will come to the rain museum for immersion rather than mere escape. The museum aims to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience impossible to get elsewhere.
