- A viral video shows a former Air India cabin crew member sitting in the cockpit during a flight
- Air India has launched an investigation into the video's authenticity
- The airline emphasised strict cockpit access protocols and passenger safety priority
A video circulating on social media has raised questions about flight safety and cabin crew responsibility in India. Posted on X by @iNikhilsaini, the clip shows an Air India cabin crew member sitting comfortably inside the cockpit while the aircraft is in the air. The now-deleted Instagram reel featured the text "Welcome to the heart of the aircraft-cockpit" along with a Bollywood song playing in the background.
Resharing the video on X, the user wrote, "Wait until you see the end of this video. The plane is in the air, and an air hostess is sitting in the cockpit making reels. Is this really allowed? Feels quite disturbing to see something like this when passenger safety is supposed to be the top priority. @DGCAIndia."

Responding to the viral clip, Air India issued a statement on X saying, "We are aware of a video circulating on social media that shows a former Air India cabin crew member seated inside the cockpit."
The airline added that an investigation has begun to establish the facts behind the video. "Air India has strict protocols governing access to the cockpit, and any deviation from these standards is treated with utmost seriousness. While we are verifying the authenticity of the video, we have initiated an internal investigation to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the video."
The statement further noted, "Appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation to ensure complete adherence to all safety and operational protocols. At Air India, the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain our top priority."

The video has generated a wide range of reactions online, with some expressing concern and others suggesting it was not a major violation.
An X user wrote, "Having some experience in this industry, this is definitely a safety violation. That lady should not be sitting in that seat but standing behind it, and I hope appropriate action is taken."
Another user defended the situation, commenting, "The flight is in cruise (non-critical phase), and the cabin crew is sitting inside the cockpit in the absence of the captain (which is a mandatory rule). Many pilots use their mobile phones in the non-critical phases of flight, so nothing wrong here! Just chill!"
One user questioned, "The cabin crew may be a former member, but what about the tech crew? Have you identified who was shooting the reel and initiated action?"
Another commented, "Who filmed it? It wasn't the 'former cabin crew'. The amount of cringe social media coming from Air India flight crews in uniform is not helping your brand in the slightest."
