The upcoming Nashik Kumbh Mela is not just about millions of devotees coming together. In an effort to boost tourism and make it more convenient for devotees, this time, Maharashtra is adding a heli-tourism circuit that could let you fly between temples instead of sitting in hours of traffic. This way, you will be able to cover crowded or far-off places with much ease.

Nashik Plans Heli-Tourism To Ease Kumbh Mela Crowd

With this helicopter circuit, you will be able to skip packed roads and simply take off from one pilgrimage site and land near another within minutes. The proposed circuit will connect some of the most important pilgrimage and heritage spots in Maharashtra, including Sai Baba Temple, Grishneshwar Temple, Bhimashankar Temple, Ajanta Caves, and Ellora Caves. All of these are located within about 150 km of Nashik, which makes helicopter travel not just possible but incredibly efficient.

This initiative is essential as the scale of the Kumbh is truly massive. According to Hindustan Times, over the 20-month period (from October this year to July 2028), the state expects 90 to 100 lakh devotees, especially during major rituals like Shahi Snan, Amrut Snan, and Nagar Pradakshina. On these days, Nashik's roads are bound to get overwhelmed. But now, instead of adding more vehicles to already-crowded roads, some travellers will be hopping on a chopper.

Once the circuit is up and running, your trip to Nashik will become easier. After attending rituals, instead of planning a long road trip, you can head to a nearby helipad, board a helicopter, and, within minutes, you're flying over rivers, hills, and towns.

To bring this vision to reality, the government is investing over ₹15,000 crore into developing infrastructure, crowd-management efforts, tourism development, and improving connectivity. The Hindustan Times reports that authorities will identify land near temples and attractions to build new helipads or upgrade the existing ones.

While pricing isn't out yet, this service will definitely suit pilgrims who are short on time, elderly travellers who prioritise comfort, and of course, tourists looking for a unique experience. The idea has already worked well during the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, where helicopter services helped reduce pressure on roads and offered a smoother experience. Now, Nashik could take it even further.
