Bihar is all set for a major boost in international tourism after the state cabinet approved a proposal allowing IndiGo to operate direct flights on the Gaya-Bangkok route for the next 12 months. The decision, cleared during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday, is expected to improve international air connectivity and make travel easier for thousands of Buddhist pilgrims and international tourists.

IndiGo To Operate On Gaya-Bangkok Route

According to a proposal of the civil aviation department approved by the cabinet, Interglobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) was selected on a nomination basis after it emerged as the sole bidder for providing non-stop international air service on the route.

The move is being seen as a major step for Bihar's tourism sector, especially for Buddhist pilgrimage travel. Every year, thousands of visitors from Thailand travel to Bodh Gaya, one of Buddhism's most sacred sites. With direct connectivity now in place, travellers will be able to reach the spiritual destination faster and more conveniently.

Officials believe the new route will do much more than ease travel. "The commencement of this air service will promote Buddhist tourism and expand tourism-related activities in the state," the proposal said. Naturally, increased tourist footfall will create fresh opportunities for hotels, transport operators, and businesses that depend on cultural tourism.
