- Armenia allows visa-free entry for Indians with valid residence permits until July 2026
- Eligible permits include those from the US, EU, Schengen, and Gulf countries valid for six months
- Visitors can stay up to 180 days within one year using physical permits or passport stickers
Armenia has opened its doors wider to international travellers in 2026, introducing a temporary visa-free regime that could make the Caucasus nation significantly more accessible for Indians. The policy, which took effect on 1 January and runs until 1 July 2026, allows eligible foreign nationals from 113 countries - including India - to enter Armenia without applying for a visa in advance.
The move marks one of Armenia's most extensive travel relaxations to date and is aimed at boosting tourism, encouraging spontaneous trips and strengthening global connectivity during the first half of the year.
Who Is Eligible For Visa-Free Access Under The New Rules?
Indian passport holders can enter Armenia visa-free if they hold a valid residence permit issued by the United States, any European Union Member State, a Schengen Area country, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman.
The residence permit must remain valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.
Duration Of Visa-Free Stay In Armenia
Travellers may stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within a one-year period, and may present the permit either as a physical card or a passport sticker.
Along with India, the exemption covers nationals of 113 countries in total across Asia, Africa and Latin America, including South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Why Armenia Introduced The Visa-Free Waiver
Officials have described the move as part of a broader strategy to attract more tourists in early 2026, a period that typically sees lighter travel. By relaxing entry requirements, Armenia hopes to encourage short-notice trips, family visits, business travel and longer exploratory stays.
Lusine Gevorgyan, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Armenia, said the decision is an invitation to travellers, emphasising that the country is ready to welcome more visitors in 2026, reported Travel Trade Journal.
