Delhi's civic body is rewriting the map of outdoor fun for children. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has approved plans to build twelve new theme-based parks in the city. Three of these are already on the way in neighbourhoods such as Mayapuri, Saket and Greater Kailash‑2. Each park, costing between Rs 1-3 crore, will feature creative themes like Jungle Book, marine life, insects, octopus, and more.

Inspired by the popular Dino Park, the MCD plans to create themed parks in each administrative zone. They will come equipped with swings, slides, tunnels, balance beams and interactive installations.
“Each of these parks will cost around ₹1-3 crore. Work is in the advanced stage in the park being developed in Rohini's Teacher's park, while installation has been started in Kalkaji park near Nehru Place flyover, where an insect theme park is being set up which will be ready in the next month," a senior MCD official told Hindustan Times.
As per the finalised plan, M-Block Market in GK 2 will feature a Garuda-themed park. Garuda is a mythical bird from Hindu and Buddhist mythology. Mayapuri's park will be inspired by The Jungle Book, Saket's park will be a butterfly park, and Swasthya Vihar park will have a sea animal theme. Meanwhile, Mayur Vihar Park will showcase peacock and Ajmal Khan Park in Karol Bagh will have an octopus theme.
“In some cases, we have also subdivided the projects by adding simpler play equipment in a second park. For instance, Saket and Nehru Place park have been clubbed,” the official added.
The MCD manages over 15,226 parks in the city, but only a few of them are specifically designed for children. Over the years, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Delhi High Court have repeatedly urged the authorities to create dedicated spaces for kids.

The Delhi High Court had previously directed the state government in 2015 and 2020 to develop dedicated parks for children. A bench of former Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan stated that such orders had been issued before, emphasising the need for children's play spaces.
