- Michelin Key Selection 2025 introduces a new global benchmark for hotel excellence and experience
- Hotels are rated with one, two, or three Keys based on service, comfort, design, and guest experience
- 36 Indian hotels received Michelin Keys, with Taj Lake Palace and Taj Falaknuma Palace earning three Keys
The Michelin Guide has just unveiled its Michelin Key Selection 2025. This global announcement marks a new era in how the world's finest hotels are recognised. Much like the coveted Michelin Stars for restaurants, the Michelin Key now does for hospitality what stars have long done for dining. It sets a new benchmark for excellence, style, and experience. This year's reveal, which took place in Paris, represents the first-ever global unveiling of properties, spanning many major destinations across continents. Alongside the Keys, Michelin also introduced new Special Awards spotlighting architecture, design, wellness, and local immersion. In doing so, it acknowledges the many ways hotels today are redefining what makes a truly memorable stay.
What Does A Michelin Key Mean?

The Michelin Key functions as the hospitality world's equivalent of the Michelin Star. Hotels are evaluated for their service, comfort, design, sense of place, and overall guest experience. Michelin's anonymous inspectors apply the same rigorous standards used in their restaurant assessments. The Keys come in three levels: One Key denotes a "very special stay" that exceeds expectations; Two Keys recognise "an exceptional stay" distinguished by strong character and hospitality; and Three Keys honour "an extraordinary stay" - a hotel that's a destination in itself. Each award celebrates not opulence alone, but also authenticity, creativity, emotional resonance, and more.
