Passenger Reservation System

The Railways' Passenger Reservation System will shut down for six hours during the lean business hours of night for the next seven days, as part of the national transporter's efforts to normalise passenger services.

The time limit is extended for the tickets between the journey period - March 21, 2020 to July 31, 2020 and is applicable only for the regular timetabled trains cancelled by Indian Railways

In a passenger-friendly move, the railways on Thursday announced a facility of transfer of berths, which remain vacant at the train-originating station after preparation of second chart, to the next and subsequent stations to be alloted to wait-listed passengers there.

Besides 139, one can also cancel train tickets using IRCTC website also and both the facilities were made operational from Friday.

In a bid to usher in passenger friendly measures, the railways ministry has decided to convert one Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counter, where only unreserved tickets are sold, into a UTS cum Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter, where only reserved tickets are sold.

Starting today, Indian railway stations will allow cancellation and refund of reserved tickets at an additional counter which was until now dispensing only unreserved tickets, an official statement said.
