Union Minister VK Singh, who on Monday brought back the bodies of 38 of 39 Indians killed in Iraq by a special aircraft, has said that the workers had travelled there illegally so the government had no record of them and couldn't help them.

A man from Punjab, who escaped from Islamic State captivity in Iraq, claims that he watched 39 Indians kidnapped from Mosul last year being shot dead. The government, which has for months insisted that the Indians are safe, has said he cannot be trusted.
