Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has to reimburse the public money spent on installing hundreds of elephant statues in parks in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow and Noida, the Supreme Court said today.The elephant is the symbol of the Bahujan Samaj Party or BSP.

Police in Lucknow have begun investigations into an alleged financial fraud in the elephants statues installed by the BSP government in Lucknow and Noida. The police allege tender norms were possibly tailor-made to favour certain contractors, who sold the stone statues to the government at highly inflated prices.
