The BJP's Anuppur district unit chief in Madhya Pradesh, who had vowed in 2017 not to wear footwear till the party forms a government in the state, started wearing it again on Saturday.

"In 2017, BJP won 60 seats but this year we've won more than double the seats in urban local body polls," Yogi said.

The Patidar community, a section of which had voted against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2017 Assembly polls, returned to the ruling outfit in the just concluded polls as it won almost all the seats.

A voter turnout of 65.22 per cent was recorded in the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections in 93 seats, as per the latest data shared by the Election Commission on Tuesday.

In 2017, the BJP had managed to form the government in the hill state on its own with 44 seats, with the Congress getting just 21 seats despite being close in terms of vote share.

An average voter turnout of 63.31 per cent was recorded in the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections in 89 seats, the Election Commission said on Friday while announcing final figures.

Cash, drugs, liquor and freebies worth over Rs 290 crore have so far been seized in poll-bound Gujarat, which is over 10 times the recoveries made during the entire 2017 assembly election period in the state.

Gujarat will vote tomorrow and on Monday, to elect a 182-member Legislative Assembly. The contest this time is three-cornered, with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress - traditional rivals - facing the Aam Aadmi Party.
