A high-level committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind has submitted its report on the government's 'One Nation, One Election' push - which proposes holding Lok Sabha and Assembly polls simultaneously.

The committee on 'one nation, one election' headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind has received nearly 21,000 suggestions from the public out of which 81 percent "affirmed" the idea of simultaneous polls, an official statement said on Sunday.

The health ministry in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip said Wednesday at least 21,110 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since the war with Israel erupted on October 7.

The High Court of Karnataka has said that if it is proved that the same games which have already been decided as 'game of skill' by the courts, the Rs 21,000 crore tax notice on an online gaming company will go nowhere.

The week ahead should see the Sensex test the 21000 levels after 4 weeks of consolidation. With foreign flows turning positive also expect Indian rupee and stocks to outperform in the emerging market basket of countries.

Rate sensitive stocks fell. Banking stocks declined 1.4 per cent, while autos slumped 2.2 per cent. Tata Motors slumped 4.6 per cent and was the top Nifty loser. Tata Motors shares have fallen 6.7 per cent (as of Wednesday's close) after hitting a record high of 405 on November 28.

Consumer prices were forecast to have risen an 10 per cent annually last month, a Reuters poll showed, barely changed from the 10.09 per cent clocked in October.

All 50 stocks on the Nifty traded in the green, but the biggest buying was seen in banking stocks. The NSE's Bank Nifty surged over 4 per cent in early trade.

Anil Manghnani of Modern Shares and Stock Brokers told NDTV that it's great that the index is doing well, but at the end of the day, you trade stocks. The worrying aspect of the current rally is that many stocks are trading significantly off their highs when the Nifty hit 6,229 (the previous high for 2013 hit in May) earlier this year, he said.

BHEL has been the worst performer on the Sensex since November 2010. The stock has shed 71 per cent of its value in a clear reflection of the sharp slowdown in the Indian economy.

Sesa Sterlite and Tata Steel were among the top Nifty gainers, while Hindalco gained after several days of selloff. The aluminium maker and its promoter Kumar Mangalam Birla have been named by the CBI in the coal scam.

Gold prices (in dollars) are down 20 per cent in 2013. Spot gold is currently trading at $1,391.30 an ounce. In India, gold futures for May delivery dipped below Rs 26,000 per 10 gram mark earlier this week. Global investment bank Credit Suisse says "the sell-off could have further to run."
