A 19-year-old woman was found murdered on her birthday in Warangal district of Telangana. One of her college classmates has been arrested by the police, who suspect the teen was sexually assaulted before being killed.
The young woman left her home on Wednesday morning saying she was going to the temple as it was her birthday. Her family complained to the police after calls to her mobile phone went unanswered.
The police say Sai Kumar, the arrested man, had invited her saying they would celebrate her birthday together. When they met, he allegedly sexually assaulted her in his car. The police suspect he killed her when she resisted.
Sai Kumar allegedly called his friends for help, without telling them about the murder. When they arrived, they refused to help. He then bought clothes and changed the teen's clothes to hide evidence before dumping the body.
Her body was found on Warangal's Hunter Road late at night. The body was taken for autopsy before being handed over to her family.
The police used call data records and CCTV footage to zero in on the accused man.
