Telangana Legislative Council Polls: TRS Bags 4 Seats, Congress Wins 2

K Chandrashekar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) bagged two seats in Ranga Reddy, one each in Mahabubnagar and Khammam.

Hyderabad: In a relief to Congress, the main opposition party today managed to win two out of six seats in Legislative Council polls in Telangana, though the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) bagged the remaining four.

Congress won one seat in Mahabubnagar district and the Nalgonda district constituency. Elections were held on December 27 to fill six seats from local authorities constituencies in the Legislative Council.

Continuing its domination in state politics, TRS bagged two seats in Ranga Reddy, one each in Mahabubnagar and Khammam.

Earlier, TRS candidates were elected uncontested in six seats in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Medak and Warangal, state Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal told reporters in Hyderabad.

The notification to hold biennial elections to the 12 seats in the Council was issued on December 2.

The minor victory in the council polls came as a relief to Congress as the party had suffered humiliating losses in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections last year, followed by defeat in the Medak and Warangal Lok Sabha bypolls in the state.
