Erode: With surveillance cameras spotting a leopard in the ghat road section in Erode, the forest department has advised people to be careful and not venture into the area between 10 pm-6 am.

They also advised lorry and bus drivers to go in convoy. Officials said the driver of a vegetable-laden van had noticed a leopard in the Thimbam ghat road yesterday at the 22nd hairpin bend.

The animal stood in the road for about 30 minutes before other vehicles started sounding their horn, scaring it from the place.

The officials claimed that because of the steps taken by them organised poaching of animals in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve forest area has been curbed.

They said population of wild animals has increased in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve and Anthiyur forest areas.
