Closed circuit cameras installed in Madras High Court

Chennai: Nine closed circuit cameras have been installed at the five gates of the Madras High Court and otherplaces in the complex as part of the second phase of comprehensive security system in the wake of the terroristattack on Delhi High Court last year.

The first phase included restricting entry to the high court and frisking even those entitled to enter the complex.

Chief Justice M Y Eqbal inaugurated the facility.

Justices C Nagappan and D Murugesan, Advocate-General A Navaneethakrishnan and City Police Commissioner J K Tripathy were present on the occasion.

Later, Joint Commissioner of Police, North, N K Senthamaraikannan told reporters that the control room, which would be manned by an Inspector among other personnel, would function round the clock.

Sixteen more cameras are proposed to be installed later, he said.
