Bangalore: A three-year-old child has been allegedly sexually abused at a private school in East Bangalore. An attendant of the school was arrested after the child's parents filed a complaint with the police on the November 26.

The child was allegedly abused twice in November. When she complained of pain in her private parts, the mother had her undergo a medical examination, which indicated sexual abuse.

"The mother of the 3-year-old realised something was wrong with the child on November 22. But she did not take it seriously. Four days later, the child was not well again," said MN Reddi, Commissioner of Police, Bangalore.

"She suspected something was wrong. She filed a complaint. Going by her and the child's statement, we have arrested the accused Nagaraj, who is an attendant in the school," he added.

Investigation into the case is still on. The police, Mr Reddi said, will examine the CCTV camera footage from the school.

Following the uproar after several children were reportedly abused in schools since July, the police put in place stringent safety guidelines that all schools are expected to follow. One of these is the installation of CCTV cameras in the school premises and school buses.

Mr Reddi said so far there has been "no evidence" that the school had tried to bury the case or suppress facts. "We will still investigate in terms of the security arrangements etc. and take necessary action."

Bangalore has seen angry protests over at least four other incidents of sexual assault on schoolgirls since July.

Hundreds of parents took to the streets after a six-year-old was allegedly raped at the Vibgyor International School, for which two gym instructors were arrested.
