The mystery behind the disappearance of a Class XI student of Hosur deepened with the police informing the Madras high court that a "super-imposition" test of a skull of a skeleton recovered from a lake was that of the missing boy.
However, taking note of the apprehension of the family of the boy that the investigation by the Hosur police would not be fair and unbiased, a Division Bench comprising Justices K N Basha and P Devadoss on Wednesday transferred the investigation to the crime branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu police.
The boy Sandesh mysteriously disappeared on October 16 last year.
Though a complaint was given immediately to the Hosur SIPCOT police by the boy's father Sushil Mandal, a case was registered only two days later. The boy's father filed a Habeas Corpus Petition in the High Court.
The Court directed the Krishnagiri district superintendent of police to personally monitor the investigation. The boy's father had alleged that the family of a class XII girl, who his son had developed a friendship with, was behind the disappearance of his son.
The court also took note of the father's statement that the girl's father, a serving inspector of central excise department, was an influential person in Hosur.
On June 25, police filed a report in the court stating that a skeleton, believed to be that of the boy, had been recovered from a lake and it would be sent for forensic examination.
The Bench said that in the status report by the police, it had been stated that the skull found in a lake was sent for superimposition test with the photo of the missing boy and that it was the boy's skull.
