Nine killed, one injured in road mishap on way to Tirumala

Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh: Nine persons were killed when their car was hit by a lorry in Kodur mandal of the district early on Tuesday, police said.

Eight members of a family and the driver of their car were killed on the spot when the speeding lorry, coming from Tirupati, hit the vehicle at Kukkaladoddi, 95 kms from the district headquarters, they said.

The mishap occurred when the family was going to Tirumala to offer prayers to Lord Venkateswara.

A 14-year-old girl, who sustained injuries in the accident, was rushed to a hospital in Tirupati.

The deceased, all from Peda Sankarm Palli village of Medak district, have been identified as - Lakshiminarayana (40), his wife Jyothi (38), their children Swetha (7) and Karthik (7) and relatives Balakrishna alias Kishan (88), Sreeramulu (60), Ysodha (50), Ramulu alias Chandrika (25) and driver Santosh Kumar (27).

Andhra Pradesh Minister of Municipal Administration Mahidhar Reddy, who is Minister in-charge of Kadapa district, visited the accident spot and instructed officials to extend all possible help to the victims.

Rajampeta Sub Collector Preethi Meena and In-charge DSP Rajeswar Reddy also rushed the spot.

Kodur Circle Inspector Ramakanth has registered a case while further investigation was on, police added.
