Men arrested in Karnataka had links with Lashkar-e-Taiba, says Government

Bangalore: Home Secretary RK Singh today told NDTV today that the people who were arrested in Karnataka due to suspected links to terror organisations, have connections with Lashkar-e-Taiba. Mr Singh also said that out of the 11 people arrested, two of them were trained in Pakistan.

The 11 men, who were arrested earlier this week, have been sent to 14-day police custody and are currently being questioned. They were arrested on the suspicion of having links with terror groups like the HuJI and LeT.

During the arrests, an imported 7.65mm weapon along with several documents, some bullets and CDs with some data were recovered by the police from Hubli in North Karnataka.

The police said they were plotting to assassinate some politicians, journalists and some representatives of Hindu groups. According to Bangalore Police Commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji, with the arrests, 'a big catastrophe had been averted'. Mr Singh too said today that the nature of threat was 'serious.'

Five more arrests were made today; one in Hyderabad and four in Maharashtra's Nanded district.
