Lokayukta cops submits final report in case against Deve Gowda's son Balakrishna

Bangalore: Lokayukta Police has submitted, to the court, its final report in a disproportionate assets case against retired KAS officer H D Balakrishna Gowda, son of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.

The Lokayukta Police submitted the report after Special Lokayukta Court had directed Lokayukta Additional Director General of Police Satyanarayan Rao on Monday to appear before it personally after the police failed to submit the final report in the matter.

In its report, Lokayukta police said Gowda was found in possession of assets worth Rs 17.5 crore, which was 43 per cent more than what he had declared while he was retiring from service.

S N Balakrishna, retired Assistant Manager of the state-run Visveswarayya Iron and Steel in his complaint on September 22 last year had charged Gowda with possessing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income and prayed for action under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Following a directive by Lokayukta court to conduct investigations into the complaint, Lokayukta police had raided the residences of Balakrishna and his relatives in Bangalore and Mysore.

Reacting to the Lokayuta police report, Balakrishna alleged political conspiracy against him and charged former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa behind the case.

"The disproportionate assets case is politically motivated and the Lokayukta police has submitted a concocted report in the court at the behest of Yeddyurappa to fix me," Balakrishna said.

He said all his activities were transparent and given documentary proof to Lokayukta police explaining every aspect of his income tax returns.

"I have given the entire balancesheet details to Lokayukta police. Not even one rupee has been found illegal," Balakrishna said.
