Gold seized from passenger at airport in Kerala

Kochi, Kerala: Customs officials seized gold sheets totally weighing 945.37 grams and valued at Rs 28.44 lakhs from a passenger who arrived from Sharjah by Jet Airways at the Nedumbassery International Airport in Kochi today.

Gold sheets were found concealed behind brass sheets on a square wooden flower vase, a customs official said in a press release.

The passenger was identified as Koliyadukkam Mohammed Ahamed Jafar (28), a resident of Kasargod. He was intercepted by officials when he was hurrying through the Green Channel.

Four gold sheets totally weighing 945.37 grams, concealed behind four decorative brass sheets of similar size and shape found on all four sides, were recovered.

He was arrested under Customs Act, 1962 and further investigation is in progress, the release added.
