Crime Incidence on Downswing in Chennai: Top Cop

Chennai: The incidence of crime in Chennai has come down by 25 per cent this year when compared with the corresponding period in the past two years, a top police official said in the city today.

City Police Commissioner S George told reporters that this year until August 7, city witnessed 85 murders while during 2013 it was 116 and 102 in 2012.

The City has witnessed 40 incidents of robbery this year while it had recorded 54 and 55 incidents during 2013 and 2012 for the corresponding period (January-August).

The crime rate was being brought down with intensive beat and sector policing, he said.

The 'Beat register services' that records patrol and visit to areas, presently available only for ATM kiosks, will be extended to homes, educational institutions, hotels and other establishments on need basis, he added.
