MNS corporator arrested in child marriage case
Pune: MNS corporator Vasant More has been arrested along with two associates by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police on charges of facilitating the marriage of a minor girl.

More, Rajabhau Kadam and Mahadevi Dengle, all residents of Katraj, were arrested under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act of 2006. The three were remanded in police custody till January 29. The complaint was filed by Nanabhau Waghmare, father of the minor girl.

The police said the three had organised a mass marriage at the Mauli Garden hall on Katraj-Kondhwa road.

Dengle had brought the minor there. The girl tied the knot with a 25-year-old identified as Bhavarlal Meena and the three suspects facilitated it against a payment of Rs 20,000, said the police.

When the suspects were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Manik Satav, public prosecutor Rajendra Suryavanshi sought their police custody to recover the Rs 20,000, the birth certificates collected by Kadam and More while organising the mass marriage and the video footage of the entire event.
