New Delhi:

Malt producer Soufflet Malt has partnered with United Breweries Limited to establish a greenfield malthouse in South Rajasthan. It is a major investment in India's brewing value chain. The facility, scheduled for commissioning in early 2028, will begin with an annual capacity of 1.1 lakh tonnes of malt, with expansion plans to double output in Phase II. The project is expected to create 400 direct and indirect jobs and another 700 across the supply chain. The companies will also work with over 50,000 farmers and source up to 2.5 lakh tonnes of barley annually, strengthening local agriculture and ensuring stable incomes. Designed with zero liquid discharge systems and advanced digital grain handling, the plant will embed sustainability and automation at its core.

Vivek Gupta, Managing Director and CEO of United Breweries Limited, said the partnership with Soufflet Malt is aligned with the company's long-term vision for India's market. He said,

"Our partnership with Soufflet Malt is strategic and future-focused, strengthening our backward integration, securing a consistent supply of high-quality malt and preparing us for the next phase of category growth,” he said. The new malthouse will supply high-quality malt for brewing flagship brands such as Kingfisher and Heineken®, focusing on both companies' focus on quality, supply security and long-term growth in India's expanding market."

Jorge Solis, CEO of Soufflet Malt, said the investment aligns with the company's MALTiply 2030 strategy of leveraging its global capabilities at the local level. He said,

“We are excited to build our second malthouse in India as part of our MALTiply 2030 strategy of leveraging our deep global capabilities locally. We are thrilled to partner with United Breweries Limited and are proud to supply high-quality malt for their trusted brands. The company's strong reputation for excellence, quality and sustainability provides a solid foundation for long-term value creation. For us, today is much more than business growth; it is about two industry leaders coming together to deliver the best and benefit our ecosystem, the agricultural community, our partners, suppliers and consumers."

The initiative aims to provide stable incomes, improve market access and promote sustainable farming practices, while building a strong ecosystem of agronomists, logistics partners and local entrepreneurs across Rajasthan. Sustainability is central to the project's design. The facility will feature zero liquid discharge systems, advanced water management processes and digital grain handling technologies.
