What Extinction Looks Like: Pic Of Last Male Northern White Rhino Goes Viral
A photo of Sudan, the world's last male northern white rhino, has gone viral on social media after being shared on Twitter with a heartbreaking caption: "Want to know what extinction looks like? This is the last male Northern White Rhino. The Last. Nevermore."

Shared by biologist Daniel Schneider, the pic has raked up almost 40,000 'likes' and about the same number of retweets.

The picture shows Sudan, the last of the three white rhinos, and the only surviving male, left in the world today. Attempts to breed the 44-year-old rhino with the females have been unsuccessful, reports the Telegraph.

Sudan is currently being looked after by a special team at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. The Helping Rhinos charity, which works to save rhinos from extinction, is 'now looking at science, and IVF to keep the northern white rhino genes alive.'

On Twitter, the picture left many saddened. "Breaks my heart. What is wrong with us humans?" writes one commenter. "That's heartbreaking," says another.
