Stephen Hawking 'Auditions' Celebrities To Be His New Voice In Viral Video

Stephen Hawking hunts for a new voice in this viral video. Does he make the right choice?

New Delhi: After over 30 years of the same computerised voice, renowned physicist Stephen Hawking is on the hunt for a new voice. Well, kind of. In a hilarious comedy sketch created for British charity Comic Relief, Dr Hawking "auditions" a diverse group of celebrities to be his new voice. From actors Liam Neeson and Anna Kendrick to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and even Ginger Spice herself, Geri Halliwell, each celebrity auditions for the "once-in-a-lifetime role" with varying degrees of success.

"Listen to my voice. It's deep. It's sexy. It's got a tinge of ... physics," says Liam Neeson. And yes, he even does a little bit of his Taken routine but Dr Hawking remains unimpressed.

Australian singer Kylie Minogue tries to bag the job by claiming her songs are about science. "Spinning Around is about centrifugal force," she says, rather unconvincingly. Nice try, Kylie.

Actor Eddie Redmayne, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Dr Hawking in the 2014 critically-acclaimed film The Theory of Everything, seems annoyed he even has to audition for the part. Surely he's a shoo in for the "sequel?" Not a chance, Redmayne.

At least one person thinks the audition process is pointless. "Why change? Your voice super sexy and cool," Apple's voice-controlled personal assistant Siri tells Dr Hawking.

Looks like Dr Hawking's final choice is legendary British actor Michael Caine. Well done, sir.

Dr Hawking has a rare form of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Motor Neurone Disease. It has gradually paralysed him over the years. He communicates using a computer-based system. His distinctive computerised voice is instantly recognisable.
