Niamh Geaney found her doppelganger in Karen Branigan via Facebook
Doppelgangers or lookalikes have been gleefully seized on as a winning formula by Bollywood in several films but the truth, as they say, is stranger than fiction. The popular belief is that everyone - that's everyone in the whole world - has a doppelganger. Or seven doppelgangers, according to some.
In the hit TV show 'How I Met Your Mother,' each character had a (rather unsavoury) doppelganger--Lesbian Robin, Moustache Marshall, Stripper Lily, Mexican Wrestler Ted, and Fertility Doctor Barney. But it's this real life story of a young Irish woman who found her lookalike on Facebook that will blow you away.
26-year-old Niamh Geaney from Dublin was so determined to find her doppelganger, she started the 'Twin Strangers' project on March 30.
Ms Geaney and her friends, Terence Manzanga and Harry English, started the project as a challenge to see who could find their near-identical counterparts in 28 days. They set up a Facebook page, calling for anyone who looked like them to get in touch.
Within two weeks, Niamh Geaney found her 'twin,' Karen Branigan and she didn't have to look too far - Karen lives less than an hour away from Niamh. They met up in real life and were quite amused to see each other. Just as we were.
Ms Geaney posted a video on YouTube with her stranger doppelganger on April 14 and it has been viewed nearly six million times since then.
In the video, the 'twins' applied the same makeup and wore the same clothes. You will be surprised to see how they are a nearly-perfect mirror image of each other.
Niamh, Terence and Harry have been inundated with people looking for their own 'Twin Strangers,' so they are now trying help everyone else find their doppelgangers.
So, if you want to find your 'twin', this may just be the perfect chance.
