This woman could not afford to quit her job despite a breast cancer diagnosis. Then, she won the lottery
For a terminally-ill cancer patient, winning a lottery worth a staggering $1.5 million was only the first "miracle." The second? She's finally responding to chemotherapy for the first time since she was diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer.
Canada's Diane Bishop was struggling to cover the costs associated with cancer treatment, according to the
Atlantic Lottery Corporation. Then one day, she bought a lottery ticket on a whim.
"I don't know why I bought it," she said. "I don't play much."
It turned out to be the winning ticket. The terminally-ill cancer patient had won $1.5 million.
"This is life changing," Ms Bishop said. "It's eased my financial strain. Now I can retire and take care of my health."
Then came even more good news. Doctors told her that her chemotherapy was finally working. The cancerous tumours, which had previously not responded to treatment, were beginning to shrink.
"These two miracles are the power of prayer," Ms Bishop said, "I know the cancer is incurable but I can now turn my attention to fighting it full time."
