Actress Meera Chopra has denied allegations of using unfair means to procure the vaccine.

Mumbai:

A Mumbai-based actress has denied allegations she used fake ID to receive an out-of-turn Covid vaccine shot at a civic health centre in Thane. Officials have ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Meera Chopra is accused of using the fake ID to get vaccinated as a 'frontline worker'. She falls in the 18-44 age group. Maharashtra has suspended vaccination for the age-group over shortage of doses.

She had uploaded a photograph on social media of herself getting the shot. The photograph has since been deleted but others, showing an "ID card" identifying her as a 'frontline worker', emerged.

Ms Chopra has denied the allegations, saying "the ID floating on social media is not mine".

Meera Chopra falls in the age group of 18 to 44 years, whose vaccination is currently stopped in Maharashtra.

"Thane Municipal Commissioner Vipin Sharma has ordered an inquiry, under the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (health) to find out if this woman actor got vaccinated out of turn. The report has to be submitted in three days," DMC Sandeep Malavi told reporters.

Ms Chopra issued a statement that said she was just asked to send in her Aadhaar card.

"I was just asked to send in my Aadhaar card. The ID that has been floating on social media is not mine. I was asked for my Aadhaar card for registration and that's the only ID I gave. No ID is valid until it has your signature. I myself, saw that so-called ID for the first time when it came on Twitter," she said in a statement shared on Instagram and Twitter.

"I totally condemn such practices and if any such ID has been made I would want to know how and why," she added.

Meera Chopra is actor Priyanka Chopra's cousin. She has worked in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu movies.
