Mumbai model takes on purse snatchers
Mumbai: A 23-year-old aspiring model in Mumbai saved her purse from being snatched by two bikers.

"The model, Sona Khan, a resident of Malwani, was going for an audition at 7 am on Wednesday, when two men on a bike wearing helmets, caught hold of her purse and tried to wrench it away from her. But she held on to the purse and did not let go," said Senior Inspector Vashisht Andhale of Malwani police station.

Sona was unable to see their faces as the men were wearing helmets. "It was drizzling and I was walking alone on the road. I was trying to hail a cab when I realised that someone was touching my bag. I saw the bikers and instinctively tightened my grip on my bag. They kept trying to snatch it from me, but I held on."

"When I started screaming for help they panicked and fled. While fleeing the pillion rider tore my top," she added.

"I am glad that my belongings are safe, but I want those men to be punished for their attempt to rob me," said Sona.

The Malwani police have registered Sona's complaint. "We will keep a watch in that area for notorious elements. We hope to find the culprits soon.  It was the girl's presence of mind that saved her. Had the robbers been armed it could have been dangerous for her life," said the police official of Malwani police station.
