Mumbai: A vice-president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena was attacked with knives by four suspected drug addicts at his party office in Bandra late Monday night.
Although he sustained several injuries, he managed to avoid a potentially fatal blow to the neck by putting his hand in the way.
At 9.30 pm, Parvez Shaikh (32) had just returned to his party office in Maharashtra Nagar near Bandra Jama Masjid after watching a movie, when four people barged into the office and attacked him.
After Shaikh blocked one attack and his hand started bleeding, the men stabbed him repeatedly and fled. He managed to crawl out of the office and cry for help. Locals took him to the Bhabha Hospital.
Zafar Kariyana, one of Shaikh's friends, said, "He was seated inside his cabin when he was attacked. We immediately informed the police and have been told that one of the attackers has been nabbed."
A doctor from Bhabha Hospital said, "The patient was shifted to Sion Hospital for further treatment at 2 am. He has suffered injuries on his hand, stomach and back."
A senior inspector of the Bandra Police said a manhunt has been launched for the assailants.
