Busy cops take to mass birthday celebrations
Mumbai: Long and gruelling working hours did not deter 40 policemen from Jogeshwari police station from celebrating their birthday. After all, they shared their birthday on Wednesday. The warmth and bonhomie was evident in the impromptu birthday party that was thrown within the station premises, complete with a three-layered vanilla cake, potato chips, laddoos, biryani and cold drinks.

"Due to our long working hours, it is almost impossible to celebrate our birthdays with our families," said Krishnakanth Kamble, an assistant sub-inspector, who was given the charge of organising the birthday party.

"Since the police station is our second home, we decided to celebrate the birthdays together as one big family," added Kamble. The youngest of the lot was constable Ramchandra Koli, who was ushering in his 39th birthday and the oldest was Ramchandra Pawar (58) an assistant sub-inspector. This novel idea was initiated by Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Bhosale in March this year.

Six policemen from the station share their birthday today. Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Bhosale said, "We have a small get-together every couple of months in which we call for food and celebrate the birthdays of the policemen. It helps foster team spirit."
