The modern Indian diner is having a moment. With traditional Indian cuisines getting a contemporary twist, the culinary journey has become all the more interesting. Culinary scenes are incomplete without the mention of some iconic places that have our hearts and as soon as you reach the second floor of Farzi Cafe, you know that you have landed at a landmark destination. Connaught Place has always been a hot spot for food lovers. With experimentation on the cards, foodies are ready to try out hot and piping delicacies with a scrumptious twist. A gourmet experience in the most regional yet flavourful way is what Farzi Cafe's new winter menu is about. With years of ruling legacy under the aegis of Zorawar Kalra's Massive Restaurants, Farzi Cafe is one of Delhi's favourite food spots.
Conceptualized by Chef Dipesh Shinde, Farzi Cafe's new revamped winter menu is a delectable amalgamation of regional and refreshing favourites from all over the country in the most succulent way. The menu brings together a selection of highlighted foods from popular destinations in India and portrayed in Farzi's signature way, with a contemporary twist. A quirky yet electrifying ambience, soothing music and an eye-catching interior is what we call "food with a view".
Traditional Starters With A Quirky Twist
Coming to the food, Chef Jagdeep Negi and team served up an array of regional cuisines as a part of their revamped concept.
We couldn't have had a better start to a cosy Wednesday evening as we started off with a visually spectacular add-on; smoking amuse-bouche. Next was a wonderfully curated Sweet Potato Chaat served with the topping of chutney, foam and crispy wafers. The layered delight is a take on the Indian street food, creating an exceptional appetizing experience. The topped wafer gave it the perfect amount of crunch while the chutney and foam were a delightful upgrade.
The Jaitooni Paneer Tikka and Rock Prawns' Thecha were next on our menu. Bringing back the regional delight, the Jaitooni Paneer Tikka was a classic upgrade in olive marination and yogurt, giving the rightful flavour just in the first bite. The chaat masala and chutneys were adding the perfect amount of aroma to it, making it absolutely succulent.
If you are someone who loves to experiment with new flavours of seafood, then Rock Prawns' Thecha at the Farzi Cafe is an unmissable dish. With a slight amount of crunch, the prawns delivered a soothing yet addictive flavour. The prawns were tossed with thecha chutney which is made of white sesame, green chilli, garlic and coriander, giving a modern twist to the Maharashtrian condiment.
The Mutton Galouti and Chicken Candy reminded us of the quote "good food means good mood". Wrapped in a cannelloni cooked al dente, the mutton galouti was a perfect melt-in-the-mouth dish with just the right amount of spices to satiate the taste buds.
While we loved the melting galouti, the crunchy Chicken Candy made us reminisce about our good ol' childhood days. Batter coated minced chicken made in the shape of candy fried on a stick and served with the traditional Gondhoraj sauce. The hint of lemon added freshness to the delight. The crunchy and crispy texture of the candy stood up to its trademark name, while the gondhoraj sauce might have a scope to amp up the quotient a bit.
Large Plate Delicacies Get An Upgrade
Apart from the gastronomical gourmet delights, the bar at Farzi Cafe offers a range of refreshing cocktails and mocktails. We won't mind visiting the place again just to sip on to that Drunken Cellar, which was a beautiful blend of vodka, wine and vanilla essence.
Moving on from bite-sized treats to Large Plates, our taste buds were satisfied with the Exotic Mushroom Gassi served with ajwaini lachha paratha. Batter coated fried mushrooms served with a tangy, smoky flavoured curry was good enough to begin with. The bold flavours were a stand out and the slight smoky aroma well suited the dish. The best part about the dish was that none of the spices were overpowering, which gave a great balance to the dish.
Next on our menu were Prawns in Allepey Curry, served with steamed rice. A traditional South Indian delicacy, which had a bold tangy flavoured curry with aroma of raw mango.
Desserts For A Flavourful Finish
What is even a meal without dessert! A sweet treat to end a wonderful evening is perfect. Infused with strong flavours of coconut, the Coconut and Jaggery Payasam was a creamy delight. It was shaped in the form of a soft coconut pastry along with colourful crumble toppings and jaggery alongside. Next, we sampled the Yuzu Malai, pistachio crumb which was a fitting finale to our meal. The creamy, mouth melting texture of the dish satiated the taste buds while the citrusy flavour offered a refreshing blast.
