After months and months of planning, it's almost time for the big day. Yes, you can pinch yourself and say "time flies" with a dramatic sigh at the end. No one is going to judge you, not when you're almost ready to take a leap into matrimonial bliss. More than anything else, you deserve a big thumbs up and a high five in the week leading up to your wedding. The hardest part, a.k.a, the planning, is now over. What's left is a series of days you'll remember as some of the best days of your life. No matter how excited you might be as the bride to be, though, there are some things you need to make sure you check off your list before D-day.
Planning a wedding is hectic and basically a full fledged job. Talk about planning a wedding in India, where the day is, let's be honest, not only about you, but really also about your families. Maybe a little more about your families if we're being completely honest. There is a lot of chaos that comes with the process of planning a wedding, it most often has to do with disagreements within the family about the nitty gritties of the arrangements. But here's the thing, if you're hoping to win an argument with your parents about the design of the wedding card or the number of people that should be there at the wedding, just know this - you probably can't. So save yourself the hassle in the time leading upto the wedding and just let the process take its natural course. That would be, in most cases, the course your parents deem fit. There's just no fighting it.
The wedding planning aspect might be less hectic for you given that you will have that additional help and a lot (a lot) of input from family - but that really doesn't mean that you're going to be any less nervous about the details when the day finally rolls around. Or you could be, if only you knew everything was in place. Which is where a wedding day checklist will come in handy. Tick these things off your list before your wedding day to have a smooth, carefree and super fun day.
1. Try on your entire look before
The last thing you want on your wedding day is a wardrobe crisis. This is not a regular party where you envision a look in your mind and think it'll all look great - when it doesn't, you throw a fit, scrounge around your cupboard and find something else. No, no. You don't need that kind of stress on your wedding day. Make sure you try on everything the way you want to wear it at least a week before the wedding day. The outfit, yes, but also the shoes, the jewelry, the hair accessories. See how everything works together - and if it doesn't, you still have a week to tweak things around and figure something out.
2. Check in with your wedding planner
If you have a professional wedding planner, you need to make sure that someone close to you (and responsible) is keeping him/her constantly in the loop. Your wedding planner should by now have all the details of your outstation guests - their pick up and drop timings, where they're staying and all their other additional requested needs. Make sure the wedding planner has the number of the person she/he can contact for anything needed. Ideally, you should have had enough meetings with the planner by now for them to know everything. In case you're feeling like you haven't, closer to the wedding, have a quick recap meeting and give them an update on everything you need and want done.
3. Clear all your work commitments well in advance
If you're the kind of person who only wants to take the exact days of their wedding off - not a day before or after - make sure to clear your work to-do list before your wedding leave begins. The last thing you need during your wedding celebrations is an emergency work call. Make sure you make all the due handovers and complete anything that can't be handed over. Let those 3 or 4 days be only about celebrating you and your partner.
Last, but definitely not the least, remember that even though you might have envisioned your wedding day to be a specific way, last minute changes can happen - and that's fine. Go with the flow and just enjoy your day. Remember your end goal here - to get married! You're on the home stretch - just sit back, take a deep breath and make it a day you can cherish forever.
